HERITAGE PRESERVATION

Additional Heritage Kits
Additional Kits

In previous years, heritage kits were developed working closely with the Elders, Local Education Coordinators and Regional Education Coordinators based on Sugpiaq history and heritage. As Seraphim Ukatish stated “We need to document and restore the traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) of the region. Not only is it our heritage; its real science. Our understanding of the environment was developed over thousands of years of observation, and it is documented in our oral history and Elder stories.” These heritage kits were based on Elder’s TEK and include lessons for preschool to twelve grades that can be taught in classrooms and culture camps.
